• This is my first WP install. I went through the installation and everything seemed to work fine—creating the MySQL database and adding a user, updating the wp-config file, double checking all the user names and passwords, but the homepage comes up blank. It’s not easy tracking down what the problem could be or how I can try to fix it. Has anyone had this happen?

    Thanks for any help.

  • Can you check your webserver and PHP error logs?

It looks like php is okay. Take a look at this page to see what I mean:

I see an .html site in the root of your domain. Is it possible that the WordPress site in the /wp sub-directory hasn’t yet been configured to serve index.php pages by default, rather than index.html?

Yes, it’s entirely possible. But I’m not sure how to check this. Which file directs this behavior?

    Thanks.

I tried /index.php and it loaded blank.

You might want to confirm with your hosts support group first, but you may just need to add “index.php” to the list of index.*. files that your site will serve. The .php extension may not be enabled. Sometimes it’s a simple DirectoryIndex entry in an .htacess file.

You’re using an nginx web server, so I’m not confidant enough to advise in absolute terms, but I would bet the solution is very similar. A quick contact with your hosts support group or a browse through their FAQ pages might quickly put you back on track.
