I did what I remember doing before and nothing happened. Then I followed all of the instructions for making and inserting a gallery on a few different web pages, which all gave the same instructions. No matter what happens, nothing appears. So has something changed? * Previous successful galleries I uploaded resulted in a short line of code that looks like this: * [gallery link="file" columns="4"] * The new gallery I’m trying to make, that produces nothing, gives a code that looks like this: * [gallery link="file" columns="4" ids="4153,4154,4155,4156"] * What have I forgotten or what is it I’m doing wrong here? Which is it? WP 5.5 changed some things for javascript, so if you have a plugin with old code, it can cause errors that makes the WP script not run. The result is “nothing happened”. But since you say you got a shortcode, obviously something happened. It has been a long time since the gallery shortcode default was changed to use the IDs of the images to show. Both versions of the shortcode will still work (if there are no script errors). The old shortcode without the IDs shows all the attached images. The shortcode with IDs allows you to show any image without attaching it to the post. If you have a plugin or theme that filters the gallery output, you need to ask that developer. * Thread Starter [gd12345](https://wordpress.org/support/users/gd12345/) * (@gd12345) * [5 years, 9 months ago](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/new-gallery-changes/#post-13577212) * I don’t know how exactly I managed to do it, more by luck than judgement and with endless fiddling around with different combinations and permutations of clicking various different things, but somehow I managed to create a gallery. Now it won’t reorder properly, so I made a new topic. It reorders in the editor and looks great, but on the page it’s in a different order. Why does this have to be so hard?

I ended up with a line of code on the page that looks like this: * [gallery columns="4" ids="832,14213,14218,14220,14224,14226,14229,14231,14234,14236,14237,14238"] * However, the gallery doesn’t actually appear on the page. The only picture that appears is the first one in the list. That picture was originally just plonked onto the page before the others were added to the media library, but that code has now been deleted. * What is extremely odd is that if I look at the “visual” view instead of the “ text” view in the classic editor, all the pictures are there!!! But not if I look at the page in a browser. Madness! * Could it be some sort of a cache issue? Is there a time delay associated with updating the page and it actually updating in a browser? Do I need to reupload all the images and rename them again somehow, and if so won’t that affect the“ Now Biography” page which seems to be OK? It is very weird and frustrating that this should be so difficult. * Please could somebody who is clever with these things tell me what I’m doing wrong? I seem to have fixed it. * There is a rogue plugin called Paginated Gallery by Phil Barker.
