Support » Plugin: Better Click To Tweet » New feature – is it possible?

    Hi

    I like your plugin but I am wondering if you could add functionality to tweet custom (user defined) text from my website?

    So at the moment I have to pre-define a text with shortcode. How about a input box and button Tweet this? It would be great “quick message” form where anyone can simply put 100 characters, click Tweet this and this text will pop automatically on my Twitter page?

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

    That’s an interesting feature request, but it falls outside the scope of this plugin. Here’s how you could make something like that work using Better Click To Tweet and a Forms plugin:

    1. Add a form to the front end (using Ninja Forms or similar) that is limited to a certain number of characters.
    2. Save that form’s input as a post or post_meta.
    3. Write a custom function (or a helper plugin) that takes the content of that post or value of that post_meta and runs it through a do_shortcode() function like this: do_shortcode( '[bctt tweet="' . $meta_value . '" ]');

    Note that I have not tested that code, and it’s meant as a primer to get you started, not something to be cut and pasted.

    I’m happy to help with that, but as I said, it falls outside the scope of free support for my plugin. If you need custom work done, feel free to contact me here: http://benlikes.us/a1
