I think you have a valid point. WP has grown to be used on very large sites which makes search by the default arguments sometimes worthless.
At the same time a lot of these search parameters are unknown and better left for the admin to determine an extend accordingly. This makes a primitive search function work all around for everyone.
Thanks for the feedback.
Searching is hard. REALLY hard. Insanely hard. It sucks up DB resources like mad. Which is why WP defaults to a basic search :/

Maby, but its also really important. The enclosed search engine is unfortunatly pretty usless. Can’t it be a full searching function set to OFF default with an easy interface to turn on for the ones that needs it.
Today i apply “Better Search” plugin but event that will search up information from all other plugin information without custom CSS hacking.

And that’s what you need to do for your circumstances. Not everyone needs or wants a full-featured search option. I know that most sites that I’ve done don’t need anything even close, and the standard mySQL searching works more then good enough for their needs. Of course some need something better, and that’s where the additional plugins come in.
See, that’s the beauty of this sort of system. It’s done to work for the vast majority of users, and anyone that needs something different can enhance their site to suit their own needs and circumstances.

I dont think the basic search provides anyting close to searching the parts that is provided with WordPress basic fearures. It should be an easy adjustment to find all content in the tables “post” and “terms”. As soon there is a custom field or form in these tables made from a plugin there is invisible for the basic search that is provided.
