Hi Fred,
For the first part of your question, it is definitely possible to do something like this. Link Library allows you to set up multiple library configurations that will display links differently with different configurations. You can specify how many library configurations you want to have under Global Options (Number of Libraries). So, you could create a second library, set it to only display a small number of links (Total max number of links to display under Links tab of Library Configurations), set the option called Combine all results without categories (also on Links tab of Library Configurations) so that you get a mix of links from all categories, and finally set Link Results Order to Order Randomly.
Then, use the shortcode [link-library settings=”2″] to display this library on your main page.
As for your question to allow another site to access your links, I don’t see how to do this, other than the RSS publishing option that Link Library has. Or exporting the links from one site and importing them in the other.
I hope this helps answer your questions.
Yannick,
Sounds encouraging.
If I can get through the process, I should be able to restore the function to my site at least.
Once I show you what I am doing, maybe we can take it further.
Regards,
Fred
Yannick,
I created a second library and added ten of the links [from my database] to that library.
My intent was for each library to be displayed on its own separate page.
But the new library is appearing at the bottom of the page where the old library appears.
Have not been able to figure out how to alter the short code so that only one of the libraries appear.
Any suggestions?
Regards,
Fred
Hi Fred, I am not sure you understand the concept here. The All Links section of Link Library is a common place to store all of your links. When you create library configuration, these create different configurations to display links. Now, by default, a library configuration displays links from all categories. Did you add these ten new links in the same category as your other links, or in a new category?
If they’re in a different category, you could configure the first library configuration to not display the links from the new category, while the second library configuration would be configured only to show links from the new category.
I am just not sure why you just added new links. It sounded like you wanted to randomly display some of the links you had already entered in your library on your site front page.
Hope this helps.
Well, that would work.
These links are totally unrelated to the links on the existing page.
Yes, the new links are in a separate category.
The existing links should only be displayed on that page and not these new links.
The new page should only display the new links [and not the old ones]?
It sounded like you described it exactly right!
Now if I can just figure out hiw to do that.
Thanks,
Fred
You can select which categories to show or exclude from the Common tab of each library configuration.
Well, I am making progress.
The original page only displays the content from its category [problem solved on that page].
I am working on configuring a new page to display the new category.
Thanks, Yannick.
Glad to hear you’re slowly making your way. Let me know if you have questions as you go.
