Support » Plugin: Yoast SEO » Never again! It takes control and ruins your website

  • It´s getting more and more chaotic. After each update, something else is missing. Personal settings are deleted and provided with information that disappeared after the next update.
The homepage SEO title setting has been changed. What and where is the subtitle?
The settings are explained with meaningless descriptions.
Supposedly Active Installations: Over 1 million, but if you have a question or problem with the plugin nobody can help you.
Hours of trouble-shooting without success. Lots of 410 errors in Search Console. The ugly website of Yoast SEO is not really helpful, especially if you are German.
If I had known that before, how the plugin developed, I would not have installed it.
It ruins your website and you can´t do anything about it.
I only gave 2 stars, because the writing program is good, that’s all.

    Hi @cachegaagaa,

    Thanks for your comment.

We are sorry to hear you are not satisfied with Yoast SEO. You identified several questions and we’ve addressed them below.

    Personal settings are deleted
Your SEO data and plugin settings are stored in the WordPress database. So, plugin updates shouldn’t cause any data loss. Can you please clarify what settings were deleted?

The homepage SEO title setting has been changed
The default template variables for your homepage are: Site Title, Page, Separator and Tagline (see screenshot), where the Site Title and the Tagline variables will be replaced with the text you’ve provided for your site under Settings > General. Please, refer to this KB article for more information:

The settings are explained with meaningless descriptions
On each settings page of the plugin, there’s a Need Help? option at the top where you’ll find video tutorials and a detailed description of the relevant settings. Additionally, our Knowledge Base includes an extensive collection of articles explaining important aspects of the plugin and its settings.

    Nobody can help you
Whereas premium users can receive personal support via email, free users can post their questions and doubts to the plugin forum which is reviewed daily by our support team. For more information about how to get support, please follow this link.

Lots of 410 errors in Search Console
Yoast SEO allows you to connect the plugin to Google Search Console and retrieve crawl errors which are then displayed under SEO > Search Console. Notice that our plugin just pulls errors from GSC and shows them in the WordPress Dashboard for you. That said, a 410 status code means Content Deleted. If you’re receiving a 410 for non-existing URLs, there’s nothing you need to worry about. When crawling your website, Google will find out that these URLs have been deleted and will eventually remove them from the search results.
