• Hi Folks,

When hitting the /wp-admin/network/upgrade.php?action=upgrade page of my WP Network, I get the following error as it tries the first site:

Warning! Problem updating http://subsite.mynetworkaddress.co.uk. Your server may not be able to connect to sites running on it. Error message: couldn’t connect to host

I already know that the shared hosting I use does not allow loopback requests (and so, for example, I have to use WordPress Alternate Cron).

I figure this disabling of loopback requests is the cause of my errors when trying to Update the Network after a WordPress update. (anyone care to confirm?)

Is there a way to get around this automatically?
How do I go about updating each of the sites in the network?

    Cheers

    David

  • How many sites do you have? From what I understand, if you log into the dashboard of the subsite, it will update table changes on its own without requiring loopback. The purpose of the upgrade script is to batch update your sites (in groups of 5).

Only about 11 at the moment.
Is there any advantage of batch updating them over waiting for me or a client to hit each site’s dashboard?
Do we get any confirmation that the site has been updated – or is there a way to find out?

    Cheers

Only that it’s done faster and there’s less likely to be odd DB issues with posts (which will magically vanish when someone hits the dashboard to see what’s up anyway).

    I don’t believe so.
