I’m seeing a similar issue across our Download Monitor links. User clicks the link, the browser tries and fails to download the file.
The majority of our downloads are PDF documents… Depending on the browser, the error is worded a little differently. Edge says “Couldn’t download – Network Error”. Firefox says “<path>.pdf.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read”. The odd thing, is that in Download Monitor’s logs, the attempts are labeled ‘Successful’.
@bishless I’m seeing the same things.
@bishless I’m also getting the same error. In my case the downloads work when I’m logged into WP but they don’t work (“Network error”) when I’m logged out. This is a major problem. Any suggestions?
Hello and sorry for this late reply.
Just tested the download link on Chrome, Edge and Firefox ( logged in and out with pdf files and non-pdf files ) with WP 5.7 and Download Monitor 4.4.4 but all seems OK. Think I need some more info about this so I can deeper test the problem. So, if you would be kind to specify the following it would be a great help:
– WP Version
– PHP version
– Download Monitor version
– Active theme
– Active plugins
Best Regards!

Thanks for the reply. To solve this problem, I had to deactivate the plugin and rely instead on Google Analytics to provide download info (via “events”).
WP Version: 5.6.2

Download Monitor: 4.4.4
Active theme: Divi
Active plugins: Accept Stripe Payments, AccessPress Social Share, Akismet, AMP, Autoptimize, Better Search Replace CatchEngine, Cloudflare, ConvertKit, Cookie Consent, Crazy Egg, Enable Shortcode and PHP in Text Widget, Find Posts Using Attachment, FV Player, FV Player Pro, Gravity Forms, Gravity Forms ConvertKit, Gravity Forms MailChimp, Gravity Forms Zapier, Gravity Form Zero Spam, Jetpack, ManageWP, Nelio A/B Testing, Postmark, Pretty Links, Reading Time, Recent Posts Widget with Thumbs, Safe SVG, Search Exclude, Simple 301 Redirects, Smooth Scroll Page Up/Down Buttons, Smush Pro, SSL Insecure Content Fixer, the Events Calendar, Thrive Clever Widgets, Thrive Headline Optimizer, Thrive Leads, Widget Options, Wordfence Security, WPMU Dev, Yoast Duplicate Post, Yoast SEO
@tomatillo sorry that our plugin did not fulfill your needs but I am glad you found a way of doing so.
@suprsam sadly I can only test with the majority of them because some are premium versions and we don’t have them. I will try with the ones that are free and get back to you.
Or, if you are willingly, you can install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin, activate troubleshooting mode ( this will enable a default WordPress theme and deactivate all of your plugins – don’t worry, it will be only for your user, your visitors will see the correct online website – ), activate Download Monitor plugin in troubleshooting mode and see if the problem persists. If the problem has vanished please activate the plugins in troubleshooting mode one by one and check which one conflicts with Download Monitor.
Please let me know which of the 2 choices you prefer ( the second one being more precise, but I understand if you are not comfortable with it ).
Kind Regards!
