I am running WordPress 3.4.1 Multisite. Everything is perfect on the main site, but the other sites cannot upload media. Actually, they can UPLOAD it, but it won’t display.

    Help :/

  • I’d check my permalinks in the .htaccess file, if the uploaded files are physically present in the correct directory.

Also check that AllowOverride is set to ALL on your httpd.conf 🙂

I’ve been following this post as I have had the same problem and have searched everywhere for an answer that works. None have so far.
When you say check httpd.conf do you mean at my host? ( 1and1 hosting) using subdomains which I have pointing to the main sites directory. Main site works fine subs won’t display photos.

I have checked my blogs.dir and the photo files are there.

This is all that is in my .htaccess file

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]

    # uploaded files
    RewriteRule ^files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$1 [L]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule ^ - [L]
    RewriteRule . index.php [L]

When you say check httpd.conf do you mean at my host?

    Yes.

Ok, I found solution, some guys from Polish forum told me that I need two lines in .htaccess file:

    # uploaded files
    RewriteRule ^files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$1 [L]

now my .htaccess looks like this:

    SetEnv PHP_VER 5
    SetEnv REGISTER_GLOBALS 0

    #Wordpress Multi site
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ – [L]

    # uploaded files
    RewriteRule ^files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$1 [L]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule ^ – [L]
    RewriteRule . index.php [L]
    #END WordPress Multi Site

now everything is working – strange that even when I did everything right there were still some probs :/

anyway thanks everyone for help – everything works fine 🙂

When you created your network, you were told to update the htaccess.

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Multisite_Network_Administration#.htaccess_and_Mod_Rewrite

We keep copies of the defaults around, just in case 😉

I did everything exactly as instructed and it doesn’t work. I wouldn’t have bother you if I had not tried everything including the defaults. Thanks I ‘ll see if someone else can help since you obviously don’t.

robrobbins – Go make your own topic, since the OP is working now.

ETA – Also I did say you need to check your httpd.conf, which was a direct answer to YOU, so I have no idea what you’re upset about.

Mika, I apologize. I’ve read every post on this subject including many involving Andrea and other experts. I’ve tried everything mentioned with the same results;nothing is working. I even have my Host tech guys working on it and I just checked and now my main site isn’t showing any media files (photos). So now nothing works. I’m just very frustrated. I’ve been trying to find a solution for a week and half. I’m sorry I took it out on you. I sincerely apologize. I just don’t know now what to do next.
