Need to store some created images

If I want to manipulate some images and store them as part of my plugin (i.e. the plugin takes the original image and modifies it) where should I store them. Is storing them in a directory under my plugin the right place to do it? Or do I put them into a folder under the uploads directory. The first seems “tidier” but of course it means granting write access to more directories (and I’m very much into don’t let anything have any more write access than its needs), whereas the second means I’m writing into an existing writeable directory

I would say the uploads directory is the best choice. If you create a separate folder under uploads for the images, it seems no less tidy to me than creating a separate folder under your plugin directory. Plus why deal with the extra complication of having to instruct your users to chmod another directory?
