Support » Localhost Installs » Need to recreate a localhost install without exported database

OK, here’s the thing – I had a local WordPress site installed on a PC that has died (hard disk failure). I had backed up the site, but only in terms of copying all the WP files and folders. When trying to recreate the site on a new PC, I can’t work out how to reconfigure it in a new installation of WP and WAMP. I have also tried this on a MAC using MAMP. It seems I first needed to export the dbase from the dead machine, but as I can’t do this, is there any way of recreating the site without rebuilding from scratch? I had only built pages and created about 6 posts, so I’m not sure what info would have been included in the original dbase. Any help greatly appreciated! I could reinstall on either PC or Mac.
    Thanks,
    Tim

Unfortunately, all those pages and posts were stored in the database. Without the database, you don’t have much of a choice other than to start from scratch.

Thanks, just as I feared. I guess I’ll see if I can make a hard disk recovery.

One more thing on this – it seems I may be able to retrieve data from my hard drive but not boot up and use WAMP to export the database. Does anyone know whether I can extract the database from the drive without exporting directly from WAMP?
    Hopefully,
    Tim

If you can recover your harddisk you could download the database .MYD and .MYI files. This link https://stackoverflow.com/questions/1357258/restore-mysql-server-from-myd-myi-files-windows may help. The key is to find the MYI and MYD files and those should be copied.
