Need tips on the Make theme

I got the make theme so I could use their page builder to easily create my first ever page. You can use three basic templates: Banner, Gallery, and Columns. Theoretically you can combine these templates in a mix and match order that will appear seamless to your site visitors. That’s where I get into trouble. It is not appearing like I want it to. Things from one element are not showing up, and things I typed in on another are, even though I can’t see them on the edit page. Sorry for any rookie questions, but I think a little advice could get me going. Thanks.
