Need site address different from WP address

  • franco29

    @franco29

    I downloaded a second WP for a new website w/a new domain to the first domain address (.com/my blog) as instructed. Now, on the general settings page, when I change the site address (URL) to the new domain, it goes to Index of/ page. This issue may be one already discussed here, but I’m missing it. seems like it should be a simple task.

    Hi franco29,

    You will want to move the files to the document root for the new domain. For instance, if you’re working in cPanel and you’re installing WordPress to an Addon domain your document root is probably public_html/newdomain.com.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks very much for the reply. So, in cpanel, when I left click on the new domain, I see “move” at the top of the list that appears. Then I do what exactly ?

    Hello again franco29,

    You’ll want to follow the instructions here for moving WordPress:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress

    Here are instructions for using the File Manager in cPanel (including a video):

    http://www.webhostinghub.com/support/edu/cpanel/202-managing-files/file-manager

    I recommend doing a Copy at first instead of Move (that way if anything goes in the wrong folder it’s easier to start over). Select all of the files/folders you want to copy/move, right click and choose copy. In the dialog box that appears, make sure you type in the correct path to the Addomin domain’s folder (e.g. public_html/addondomain.com).

    I hope this helps!
