The site name and description in the header
“Chess Lounge
A beginner’s resource for chess!”
are hard to read.
I’d consider making the type white. Also I’d flash the type left: the header image is very unsymmetrical and I can’t see any reason to keep the type centered.
I’d also think about making the background pattern more chessy (I know, it’s not really a word). The chess board is the exemplification of tiles, why not use it?
