Support » Requests and Feedback » Need Paging for “Manage Posts” and “Manage Pages”

  • As a WP newbie, I was flabbergasted to see that once I hit 16 posts–the 16th was not visible on the Manage Posts page. There was no “Next” link as any web user of any web product would expect to see. Now I have to go through the post displays in the blog itself to find what I’m looking for and then hit the edit key. Yes, I know I can search from the Manage Posts page, but with the commonality of the topics that I discuss I’m sure I’ll soon have over 15 posts per search result.

If this were not bad enough, the Manage Pages doesn’t have a Search and I’m wondering when I’ll hit the limit of my number of Pages I can display soon. I’m on 18 Page entries now and they are all there, so I have no idea what the magic number is for Manage Pages and if there will be a “next” link at all.

For both of these, we need not just “Next” and “Prev,” we need pages numbers. For example, if there are 15 posts per page and there are 65 posts entered, the bottom of the page should show links for “Next”, “Prev”, and “1,2,3,4,5”.

I doubt the skills or technology to do this paging is so advanced that it cannot be done, so I wonder why such a basic function found everywhere else was not included in WP.

  • So what’s the problem?

The manage posts function has a by month box at the top the shows all posts from the month you select. Not exactly what you desire but still easy to locate post posts.

Manage pages has no such function, but they are listed by individual title so they shouldn’t be too hard to find.

What do you mean what’s the problem? Let’s say I have 100 posts in a month. How do you suggest that I look through my posts in Manage Posts?

Same problem with Pages. I’m going to have several hundred pages. How do you suggest I wade through them when I hit the undiscovered limit on there?

I’m currently writing a plugin to deal with this very thing. Just FYI.

Thank you ColdForged. It’s a shame there has to be a plugin for something so basic.

When will it be done and where will I find it?

agreed….paging should have been part of the core code!

ColdForged, please make sure you do it for both Posts and Pages.

Alrighty guys, I have a sneak peek of the plugin up. If you wouldn’t mind providing suggestions in terms of needed additional features or usability I’d be much obliged.

I love it. Can’t wait until it’s ready.

Hopefully, a future version of WP will incorporate this.

Question: I’m noticing that the Links pages are not (so far me me at least) paging. Do these have the same problem? Does it cut them off, or just show 10 foot long pages?
