Support » Fixing WordPress » Need Help With Snippet Of Code in CSS

  • Hello:

    I had a new header and banners made up so I am trying to change the colors of my navbar header and sidebar widget headers so that they will all match. I have been working on it for several days now and have tried Firebug and Notepad++ without any success.

    Unfortunately, I paid a $250 yearly subscription and switched all my blogs to this theme and then the place went out of business and hasn’t been heard from since. I know that some people do not like this theme but I’m hoping that somebody will come along and be willing to help me out.

    I thought I had done this before and that there was a

      snippet of code that needed to be changed in the style.css

    stylesheet. I cannot find anywhere in the code that I can paste in a hex code or color code to make these a darker blue.

    I copied the code and pasted it into pastebin.com and the link is here:
    http://pastebin.com/c7ZrkT4f

    My designer is almost done with the graphics and pasted a draft of what she has done so far. If you would like to see it, it is here:

    http://www.designofcourse.com/mix/hmr_screen.jpg

    Link to my blog. I’d like to make them as close to the color blue as the new script I had installed on the monitoring pages.

    Actually, she made the middle part of the navbar dark blue to show me a color but it really isn’t that color. It’s still the same color as the rest of the bars.

    I really appreciate any input or help that anybody may be able to offer. Thanks.

    Derek

    This is the CSS code that is determining that color:

    #navbar, .widget_calendar thead, .widget_title h2 {
        background-color: #1961A8;
        color: #FFFFFF;
    }

    As you can see, it affects all the IDs and classes including as selectors — so if you don’t want all of them to change, you’ll need to modify accordingly.

    Just so you know, commercial and non-GPL sites are not generally supported here… Suggest you change to a theme that will be supported here if you no longer have the support you paid for.

    The top banner is a graphic, the Advertise Box background is close and it is #1A2E6B, same as the dark blue text background in the menu.

    The main banner color is a graidiant starting with the same color #1A2E6B

    Hello WPyogi:

    Thank you for your response. Yes, I want all the blue navbar and sidebar headers to change. So all I have to do is change the hex code #1961A8 to a code that I want and it should work right? I really hope so.

    I’m not sure it’s commercial anymore. I’m trying to find another theme that will work with my blog and still look and do the same things but haven’t been able to find one yet. The whole thing is closed and nobody is getting charged anymore even though there were losses. So it’s just a free thing now. I guess I never understood why everyone was so upset about it but I guess it’s because somebody else made money and should provide the support for it. Well, I can say for sure that he and Bobby Sue took the money and ran and I don’t think he will be back…

    I did learn my lesson on buying a paid theme and will try to find a free one that will work as well. I’m not going back into those fields again. I’m getting too old for war.

    Thanks for your reply as well David. The top 2 banners are banners that I put in with HTML code. The code that WPyogi mentioned is the color of the header bars right now and the code that you saw was actually one that I had pasted in there but it didn’t do anything. It’s the color that I would like the bars to be now, so hopefully I will get it pasted in the right spot and it will work! I didn’t catch that code still being in there but I have been looking at the code now for days so my eyes are killing me.

    Thanks again for all the help. I will try to offer my help to other posters when it’s something that I can help with.

    Have a good one.

    Yes, just change the hex color code (you can find many sites with color codes and related helpful things).

    I certainly sympathize with your situation and I think many people unknowingly buy themes and/or support plans — and unfortunately get taken or just end up in a less-than-ideal situation (i.e. no support here — which is really the best place except maybe for a few theme vendors who have good forums). Yes, I’m sure it’s hard to find the “right” replacement theme — especially when you’ve put a lot of effort (and $$) into what you’ve got. But you’ll no doubt be better off once you take that plunge — and I’m sure you know that all themes can be modified to what you want, so mostly look for the basics being close and that it’s a solid theme (i.e. kept updated, clean coding, good reputation, etc.)

    Good luck…

    Hi,
    Mine were from the monitoring pages, as I though those were what you wanted to get close to, the header menu background on that page is a gradiant image and not a solid color, but the widget headers are a solid color.

    Funny thing about the theme, it was licenced under GPL license, v.2, that means ‘open source’ that anyone can pick it up and run with it, copy all the files and just give credit to the original author!

    WPyogi:

    Yep, I agree. I always try to tell myself not to get too attached to one look or one way of doing things with the blogs (got 14 of them to switch but I do have a good theme in mind for at least 6 of them).

    I opened up style.css with Notepad++ and was going to paste the hex color code in to see if it worked and I looked everywhere and couldn’t find it. I went through the thing at least 4 times and now I’m wondering if Notepad is hiding it on me or my eyes are just tired from working too long. I went to Language and selected CSS. (I even went up to the search and then to Find and put it in there and couldn’t pull anything up).

    Would you mind telling me what line # in the pastebin you saw it on? Sorry I seem so lost, I’m usually not too bad. If I don’t find it, I will just take a break and come back to it when I’m more rested.

    @david – yes, I understand what you’re saying now. There’s a lot of work yet to be done in the graphics to be put on in both the blog and script so I can’t wait to see what it looks like when it’s done.

    Thanks for the input.

    Line 2636 of this:

    http://hyipmoneyreport.com/wp-content/cache/assets/0053b4bedbe4edb84069572cd4ae9ef3.css

    Find would not find it for me either — weird. I had to copy the entire CSS file into a text editor that would show the lines — and then it WAS on the line Firebug showed it to be on.

    I opened up style.css with Notepad++ and was going to paste the hex color code in to see if it worked

    Open in FireFox and FireBug, select the [ CSS ^] files from the menubar, then “Edit” > “Live Edit”. paste in the style changes and have a look (it is instant), it is only a temporary live edit, no files are changed.

    David:

    I see. So basically, do you think changing color to a darker blue might not be possible? I just went to the theme forum to see if I could find anything there. Didn’t find anything but there are quite a few people there posting that everything is going to hell in a hand basket and others warning not to upgrade to version 3.33 WordPress or it is likely that it will crash and not see the site again. I think some are looking for a leader to come in and save the ship from sinking but I think they threw the towel in months ago and are going to make sure that the project cannot be revived.

    Anyway, I am rambling… probably because uncertainty makes me nervous… It will be interesting to see how it comes out. Hopefully I will be able to change the color temporarily and in the meantime start looking for something nicer. Thanks for going the extra length to check that out for me.

    Send me a copy of the theme and I will have a look to see how much code is deprecated, it is ‘GPL license, v.2’ so I don’t think there should be a problem (unless anyone else says it is a “No No!”).

    We would have to replace the images with free ones, as they would not be GPL and could be copyright.

    I think it could even be put up on GitHub as an open project, if there are a few users.

    I did something for a deprecated theme and brought it up to date in twenty ten.

    There is an email link in the sidebar on my home page, the theme link will have my website.

    Regards

    David

    David:

    I couldn’t find your e-mail address on your website so I left you a blog comment (on Digital Raindrop’s) that has my e-mail address attached to it. Just send me a quick e-mail and I will e-mail you back with a zipped file of the theme. Thanks!
