Support » Localhost Installs » Need help with setting up testing environment

  • I’ve recently taken over a website that was designed in WordPress (v3.3.1) and I need to set up a local testing environment so that I can make some design changes. I downloaded WAMP but have not been able to configure correctly with the existing WP files I’ve inherited. I’ve read many articles and watched many videos, but most are assuming you don’t already have a WP site set up. Can someone help me?

A quick note on my tech experience: I’ve been managing websites for about 5 years through Dreamweaver and am fairly skilled in HTML and CSS. However, my WordPress experience is limited to simple text updates through admin controls, and definitely not from a theme or design standpoint.

Does a vanilla install of WordPress work for you?

I haven’t tried that yet, but my issue isn’t just getting WP to work. It’s setting up the testing server with the pre-existing web files that were built on WP.

You have to start by installing WordPress on your local server.
