damn this damn host company only gives you one mysql database. so heeeellllllppp. i just need to find out if theres anyone out there that has set up his or her blog on this website. thanks. all help is welcome.

yes, I did it. it was a while ago.
what do you want to know?
drop me a line at strunk@omitneedlesswords.com and i’ll try to help.
I did as well and have no problems. It doesn’t matter if you only have one MySQL database.
My site runs fine and I have both WP and Gallery running on it.
Not sure what problems you are having?
Count me in too…. I’ve been successfull at setting mine up at 1and1…. three times now! And one of those installs was a move from one domain to a new one.
Tg
thanks guy i grabbed my balls and installed the damn thing
I’m using 1and1 too. For some reason I can’t get access to the MySQL database. I keep getting the following error:
Error establishing a database connection! This probably means that the connection information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect. Double check it and try again.
Are you sure you have the correct user/password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?I have filled out all the information correctly so I’m a bit baffelled. Any help would be appriciated!
Mike
Duplicate Post…Sorry
Mike, did you change the
localhost
value in your wp-config.php file? Even though it says “99% chance you won’t need to change this value” I’ve found that I always need to change it to get things working on my 1and1.com account.Yeah. That’s why it was confusing me.
I uninstalled it all from the server, and tried again, but I now get this error!
Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /homepages/26/d121343404/htdocs/wordpress/wp-includes/wp-l10n.php on line 37
Login to your 1and1 admin account.
Select your package and go into the administration area.
Click the “Applications” link
Find the MySQL link and click it.
It should now list the following for the users:
Database Name User Name Password Host Name
And right below that, show the database stats (size and all that). If both areas are blank, then there’s no database.
It’s possible that it shows a database (in the second grid) and nothing in the first. That means there’s no users created.Either of those missing could be the problem. If so, simply run through the setup for eith or both as needed.
Once done, wait an hour or two, to give the system a chance to finish processing everything, then set your wp-config.php settings according to the data in that first grid, and you should be OK.
Tg
Cheers, but the information is already in both of the grids.
Erf! You must have been postingas I was gathing the info for my post… OK, so now you’ve got it talking to the DB at least. What is on line 37 of the wp-l10n.php file? Looks like a file might have been missed in the upload or something.
Tg
I did a clear out again, this time I got this error
Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /homepages/26/d121343404/htdocs/wordpress/wp-settings.php on line 32
I checked the wp-settings document. This is what is on line 32:
$wpdb->hide_errors();
I really want to use this software, but it’s perplexing me now. Anyone’s help would be much appriciated!
I’ve been using 1and1 for a year or so now, and have never had any major problems…seems like I just upload it, chmod whatever needs to be, and then run the install page. The only information I’ve ever needed to provide is the database info, which should be:
user: dboxxxxxxx
pass: xxxxxxx
database: dbxxxxxxx
host: dbxx.xxxxx.netI know a few times I got caught up mixing the user and database name…at first blush they look the same but the username begins with “dbo” and the host is just “db”.
How are you uploading everything? What protocol and client? Also, not to pass the buck from here, but you may want to try checking out 1and1’s support forum:
which files have to be chmod…i forgot to do that! Sorry…It might be the problem! hehe
