# Need Help with Basic Installation

 * Hi, I am new to WP and need basic help. I have a domain at godaddy.com and I 
   can’t get wordpress to install correctly. I created a MySQL account and user 
   etc., uploaded wordpress to my ftp space on godaddy, but I can’t access admin-
   install unless I actually logon to the ftp. When I open it from the ftp, it is
   in crazy language.

 * Why would you put it in your ftp folder?
    It must be in the root or a sub directory
   of the root.

 * Well I uploaded everything on to the server is what I mean. I went to my server
   ftp://myserver or whatever and copy the files from my hard drive to there. There
   is nothing else on the server. Is that not what I was supposed to do?

 * you need to be sure you are putting the files in httpdocs, or html, or where 
   ever your host specifies. If not, they will not execute when the browser navigates
   to your domain.

 * I am hosting at Go daddy.com and on the website it says that there hosting does
   not require a root folder. Yet, it will still not work when I navigate my browser
   to [http://www.myserver.com/wp-admin/install.php](http://www.myserver.com/wp-admin/install.php)
   even though I see the file on my server.

 * OK, that URI looks like your root, but nothing is connecting to the database.
   Are you sure the MYSQL is set up? And the php?

 * well I created a MY SQL database and username. I don’t know about the php. I 
   thought the SQL was basically the same thing

 * Check your wp-config.php file and make sure the databse name and password are
   correct.

 * I’ve seen some recent posts regarding godaddy, and some of the servers are running
   IIS that isn’t configured for PHP. You need to contact them and make sure you
   are on a server configured for PHP.

 * Ok, I checked with Go daddy, and one their website says that all server accounts
   are configured with PHP.

 * I’ve no experience with godaddy, save domain name purchases, so I can’t say one
   way or another
