• My problem may be simple, but i’m stumped.
I installed 2.0 on a subdirectory http://www.circusflea.com/2/, intending that i would do a test conversion (it has been deleted)
i used my wp-config.php info for the new site. somehow, now, my main site http://www.circusflea.com has been deactivated. it tells me to go to wp-admin/install.php and install. i go there, and it tells me that i’ve already installed.

i’ve uploaded all my original files that i had backed up. i overwrote everything, but it looks like something else has happened…

  • Did you keep a backup of the original database? Without the original database, you are kind of up a creek, since the databases from 1.5.2 to 2.0 are different, and not compatible.

If the answer to the above question is “no”, then check with your host to see if they have a fairly recent backup of your files, before you did anything with 2.0 – if so, they should be able to provide you a dump of your 1.5.2 database.

oh shit, really? so by using the same database, i overwrote it from the test site?

what i can do? try to get 2.0 working?

The best option is, if you have a backup of your WordPress database, to import or replace your current one with it.

Second best option is to stick it out with 2.

Third option is iffy, but you can try running upgrade.php in your 1.5.2 install, then directly through your database access the users table, browse to and edit the admin account, and reset the user_level record for it to 10.

this is comical. i have now proceeded with trying to get 2.0 going. and i’m getting this message:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: update_user_cache() in /hsphere/local/home/cjeremy7/circusflea.com/wp-settings.php on line 92

oh boy. i can’t open any file on the server.

Are you sure all the files for 2.0 are where they should be? A common reason for this error is a missing WP file. up_user_cache() is a function in pluggable-functions.php, which resides in /wp-includes. Such an error can also crop up due to a corrupted (incomplete) file.
