• Hello,

I am having an issue trying to install a theme I purchased from ThemeForest for my WordPress blog. I currently host my WordPress blog through BlueHost. When I go to my WordPress admin page, I see the Manage Themes tab, but not the Install Themes tab. I also tried this route:

Download the Theme ZIP file to your local machine.
In cPanel File Manager, navigate to your Themes folder. If you have WordPress installed in it’s own folder called wordpress, you would navigate to “public_html/wordpress/wp-content/themes” and if WordPress is installed in your web-root folder you would navigate to “public_html/wp-content/themes”.
Once you’ve navigated to the Themes folder in cPanel File Manager, click on Upload file(s) and upload that ZIP file you saved in Step 1.
Once the ZIP file is uploaded, click on the ZIP file name in cPanel, then in the panel to the right, click on Extract File Contents, and that ZIP file will be uncompressed.
Visit Administration > Appearance > Themes, under the Manage Themes tab, under the Available Themes, if necessary navigate to the page displaying that Theme, then click the Activate link to make the Theme, the Current Theme.

But I am still not having luck. Does anyone have an idea of what I am doing wrong?

  • Try contacting the theme vendors for support.

I will do that, but shouldn’t there be an install tab next to my manage tab?

Are you using a WordPress user account that has the “Administrator” role?

    Do you have MultiSite enabled?

I am using a WordPress user account that has administrator role. I contacted Bluehost and received this:

The problem appears to be that your name servers point to wordpress.com. (see below) As such it is not loading from our servers and you may not have this functionality on WordPress.com To Use WordPress on our servers you will need to contact your registrar to change your name servers to point to us. Our name servers are NS1.bluehost.com and NS2.bluehost.com

    Domain Name: KRISTINAKURTZKEPHOTOGRAPHY.COM
    Registrar: WILD WEST DOMAINS, INC.
    Whois Server: whois.wildwestdomains.com
    Referral URL: http://www.wildwestdomains.com
    Name Server: NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    Name Server: NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    Status: clientDeleteProhibited
    Status: clientRenewProhibited
    Status: clientTransferProhibited
    Status: clientUpdateProhibited
    Updated Date: 11-may-2011
    Creation Date: 11-may-2011
    Expiration Date: 11-may-2012

So I did contact Wildwestdomains.com and received this:

Please visit http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ for assistance with this domain.

    Sincerely,

    Jeremi S.

Low and behold, I go to that link and get:

Pardon the interruption while we work on some contact form updates. We’ll be back soon!

    Getting very frustrated.

Why do your domains point to wordpress.com?

Are you using self-hosted WordPress, or the hosted blogging service wordpress.com, with custom domain name?

I am not sure why. I went to the wordpress.org site and went to its list of recommended hosts, which bluehost was on the list. I went to bluehost and started an account, then loaded wordpress from the bluehost cpanel. From there I started an account, and purchased the .com domain so it didn’t have the wordpress.com domain.

From whom did you purchase your domain name?

    (@kristinakurtzke)

I followed the steps from wordpress.org, so I though I purchased the domain from them, but my receipt is showing from wordpress.com. I am new at this, but I followed the steps from wordpress.org, so I do not understand how this happened.

So you purchased your domain from wordpress.com?

That’s not a problem (they are a domain registrar, after all), but fixing your DNS server settings is going to be outside the scope of what support we can provide here. You’ll need to contact wordpress.com support.

Thank you very much Chip for your help! I will contact wordpress.com support about the issue.

I just have to wait for when they become available again.
