So you can see have not been lazy, I have found this
https://codex.wordpress.org/The_WordPress_Gallery
I tried it but am having difficulty having the images come out all the same size and also how to get a direct link on the photo to a page
Thank you and at least I am one step closer. I know the instructions may sound easy, but is not making sense to me today.
When I first tried it with 2 columns, the pictures ended up all over the post and all different sizes.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help? Cheers! Joanne

Have you considered using a plugin instead?
I did not know there was a plug in for WP.org re collages
I just Googled Andrew.
As I have had heaps of problems recently re plugins that are compatible to my theme and security, is there a way I know prior to actually downloading it and using it that it works?
I would still like to do the collages as listed on my friends blog post

Any suggestions on how to do this on WP.org?
Thank you for your time and reply! GREATLY appreciate!

You won’t know prior to downloading it that it works. This looks okay: https://wordpress.org/plugins/gallery-bank – You can always tweak the styles
Thank you Andrew! I will try it and report back to you!
GREATLY appreciate!
I was not being lazy, but cautious as some plug ins don’t really do what they say they do and even despite great reviews, I do not want to cause any more chaos or havoc to my blog than it has already been through recently!
Thank you!

I know, but this is a generally bigger problem. You could say the same about doing other changes on your site. Good developers tackle it by replicating the website onto their computers and testing it there.
