Need help adjusting code in theme
I have a site built in WordPress 2.7 using the Our Rights theme. I want to make some changes that are driving me crazy. I’m going back and forth between Dreamweaver and the live site, figuring it out in baby steps, but I just can’t get the worst thing fixed.
Would someone out there be willing to look at the source for my site and find out where the heck the code is for moving the alignment of the sidebar, or the right margin if that’s what it will take? The sidebar says it has a right alignment, but it’s crammed up against the body block. I’ll be happy to clean up any language issues you may have on your site in return!
Would simply changing the body width from 770px to 790px push things in the right direction?
Yes, you’re right – that does work to some extent. When I tried it I was adding too much width. But the sidebar remains constrained by some sort of margin on the right that forces it to stack text and be a long, skinny run.
Thanks! It’s a good start. I’d been messing with the sidebar width, which moves it to the right, but makes it even skinnier.
Thanks again – you got me headed in the right direction. Let me know if I can do anything to help you! I have more questions for anyone out there who is so inclined.
I’ve enlarged the site image, and per the suggestion above, enlarged the body (to 940).
I’m still annoyed by the right margin; it’s not too bad on my 12″ screen, but it’s a big empty space on a larger screen.
-Is there something I can add to make it fill whatever screen in which it’s being viewed?
-I want to make the font darker, but Dreamweaver isn’t showing me a darker color gray that is websafe. Does this seem right? Is there any way to just deepen the hue?
– in the footer, I have things like “RSS” and “Twitter.” I can’t seem to locate the margin choice that cramming them to the left, but even more that than, I’d like to put them side by side. I can’t figure out how to put *anything* side by side. Is there a simple bit of coding for that.
I understand that everyone has better things to do, so I don’t expect answers to all that, but I’ll be grateful for any that come my way. 🙂
