# Need for Update?

 * Hi
    I am a new user to WordPress. My website is running since 2 years. 2 month
   ago the access was dead. Via my host i have loaded the newest version with prior
   deactivating the plugins. Now is all ok. My question: Is the upgrading a “must”?
   Can I dont freeze the running version with the plugins for a longer time?

 * Hi Ed, while there isn’t a specific requirement to update your version of WordPress
   and plugins, it’s _highly_ recommended to do so regularly. Over time security
   vulnerabilities can be discovered and if you are using an older version of WordPress,
   there’s a higher likelihood your site is insecure.
 * At the very least, be sure to apply security patches if you don’t intend on updating
   the major WordPress version frequently and keep your plugins up to date.
 * A suggestion would be to keep the version and plugins updated but first do so
   on a staging or local environment to ensure there won’t be any issues when doing
   so on a live site.
