Hey all, I am a new user here and have a quick question..

What I’m looking to do is have a main website – let’s call it “Mainsite.com”.

I will be adding on a large number of “Sub Domains” per user. These will be strictly landing pages that only myself will need access to.

It will look like this: “User#1.Mainsite.com” , “User#2.Mainsite.com” and so on..

What I’m searching for is a solution where I can create one “Site” or “Template” to install across all Sub Domains every time a Sub is created.

So a new user would join, and they would be given a Sub Domain. “User#2.Mainsite.com”

I need something that will install the same “Template” if you will upon sub domain and WordPress creation that will allow me to just input the specifics of each user meaning: Photos and text and color schemes to the individual sub domain without having to build each one from scratch. Basically looking for some type of template or plug in or ?? I know this is possible I just have no clue where to begin.

Any and all help appreciated! I have been searching online for hours without finding a clear solution 🙁 I’m sure others are looking for this answer too, can anyone help?

    Hi,

what you want to look for is to create a multisite network, in your case with sub domains.

If you’re planning to have multiple users per domain then you would want to go that way. Other than that I’d recommend to go for subderectories, for better Google rankings and SEO purposes, so your urls look like this

    • maindomain.com/user#1
    • maindomain.com/user#2
    • maindomain.com/user#3

Here are a few links to check out with tutorials explaing in detail how to set it up:

    Hope this helped 🙂

Thank you for the help ReenPf!
I believe I worded my question inappropriately. I understand how to set up Sub Domains and Directories.
However, what I’m trying to do is have some sort or template theme or file I can install on each sub domain as they are created, leaving me to only fill out Text(individual content varying per site) and photos and color scheme versus doing all of the frame work and layout and design for each and every sub domain.

I’m Sorry if this is the wrong section for this question. I can’t seem to find anything about this. Not sure what it is even called is half my problem ha.

    Thanks guys n gals

Ok, so after you’ve finished the setup you’ll have the network admin settings.
There is where you can set your default Theme for all installations.
If you want to have custom styles it pretty much depends on what the theme supports.

You either have to change the CSS (create a childtheme for that) or do the changes withing the Themesoptions.

WordPress automatically takes the theme that you have defined to be default.
If you have a couple of themes intstalled you can change it in every single wpblog.

    did this answer your question?
