Hi, I’m experiencing an issue with the main navigation links. When I’m on the blog page, the links in the nav don’t go anywhere. When clicked, they show the correct page URL in the browser bar, but the page stays on the blog. This is ONLY happening on the blog page. Has anyone seen this before? I am totally stumped. (and I actually switched from a customized theme to a non-customized Twenty Sixteen and it’s still happening!) I’ve deactivated all the plugins.
Thanks for any help!
Try resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting via Settings -> Permalinks. If this works, then review Using_Permalinks before setting a custom permalink structure back up again.
Thank you – I tried this, but it is still doing the same thing, just with the default permalinks now.

This is the ugly permalink for the blog page:
Where exactly did you install WordPress on this domain? I can’t see any signs of it in the domain’s root folder. Did you install it in a sub-folder?
Yes. it’s in a subfolder called wordpress.
So what did you do to get it to run (badly) from the root domain?
I followed the instructions here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory under using a pre-existing subdirectory install.
I should add that the site has been running fine for a year or so – the nav issue is a new one.
What do you have set for the site’s front page via Settings -> Reading?
Front page is set to a static page called home, Posts page is set to blog.
What is the url of your static front page?
What urls have you used in settings -> General?
the static front page url is rachaelherron.com
Akismet was not deactivated. I just deactivated it and the links are working now from the blog page. could that have caused the issue?
thanks for your help.
Who carried out the changes to allow WordPress to take over the root domain? I’m not convinced that it was carried out correctly.
