Support » Fixing WordPress » Navigation links not working from the homepage

I have just noticed a strange issue with my site.

I have navigation links in a sidebar widget – the problem is the same regardless whether I use the ‘Custom Menu’ or the ‘Pages’ widget, so I don’t think it’s widget related.

Basically, from the homepage, the links for the Homepage and the blog page are active and work. The other page titles appear, but are not active as links – just appear to be static text.

If you navigate to the blog page, then from there the exact same menu becomes fully active.

I have absolutely no idea what’s happened to cause this or how to fix it, so any help would be appreciated.

    Theme: Papercut 2.5.4

    Thanks

  • That’s a premium theme, and you can’t really get support here for those. You have to contact the developer, which is WooThemes.

I’m not 100% sure what links you’re referring to, because they all seem to work fine for me. If you mean the page or post title(?) when you’re in a single page or post, they *shouldn’t link. All it’ll do is link back to itself.

I was referring to the menu links in the sidebar, as I described. I know that page titles just link back to themselves.

Out of interest, what browser / OS are you using? I assumed it was a wordpress issue so I didn’t think to check browsers, but I’ve tried the site in Firefox and Safari and I get the same problem, all but the ‘Awendan Translation Services’ (which links back to the homepage) and ‘Awendan translation blog’ are not active links.

I’ll try woo themes and see if there’s any joy there on this issue.

    Thanks

    I’m on my iPad (safari/iOS 6).

The “translation services” links to the home page (and viewing source code shows the same, so if it’s supposed to link elsewhere, you need to change the URL for that one), but the “blog” links to the blog. They all link to where it says they should link to.

Yes, that right – that’s the top two links.

They all link to where it says they should link to.

What do you mean by this?

What happens why you try to click the other ‘links’ – Contact, Professional experience etc?

On my ipad, ios6, safari, only the top two work, as described.

    This is bizarre.

What do you mean by this?

I mean that the href supplied in the anchor link is where all those links are going. If you want them to go somewhere else, you need to edit the URL for those links.

And yes, they ALL go where the links tell them to go. Contact page – everything.

    Interesting.

I just openings your page again, and on initial page load, none of them worked. But reloading the page (or clicking the first link) they work fine.

Have you opened this puppy up in Chrome and used the developer tools? It appears that something is taking a long time to load, because in initial page load, the site is squashed, as if something is pushing the margin on the right to a huge size. When I reload it’s all fine. Bet it’s caching, and working fine after whatever it is loads.

I wonder what happens if you remove the form?

Good thoughts there – I tested it, it wasn’t the form but it was the social media share buttons (which I notice had got a bit skewed).

As soon as I deleted them the menu came back to life.

Have now replaced with tidied up buttons and it’s still working.

Good to know for the future!

    Thanks for you help.

Sweet ! Glad you got it sorted. 🙂
