Navigation aids display incorrectly

The product navigation aids (<1>, <2>, etc) at the bottom of a category display page (when there is more than one page to display) is very large:

Is there an easy way to fix this without digging into the theme directories and php code? I would rather spend that 2 hours doing something else if there is an easier way.
