 * Hi
 * I can not do an automatic upgrade as I am been told 3.2.1 requires version 5
   or greater mySQL and I only have mySQL version 4.122 but my hosting company state
   they are running 5.0.84
 * Any ideas?
 * Cheers
 * John

 * That’s still insufficient. You need PHP 5.2.4 or greater.

 * You need MySQL version 5.0.15 or greater. The full details are on [Hosting_WordPress](http://codex.wordpress.org/Hosting_WordPress).
   I’d recommend confirming these details with your hosts first.

 * Hi there.
    I have downloaded mySQL 5.5 and the download is now currently saved
   on my hard drive. How do I upload it onto my dashboard?
 * (New to the game and desperately trying to self search/study web design for own
   use)

 * Hmmm wonder why my hosting is still on version 4?
 * Plus lately any plugins etc I add mess up as the owner and permissions are set
   so only they can access!
 * Any ideas

 * Hi seroxatmad.
 * I work in the Tech Support department for a hosting company, [http://www.webhostinghub.com](http://www.webhostinghub.com),
   and I can tell you that generally it is not a good idea to do major upgrades
   to a server, such as going from mysql 4 to 5, as it can break quite a few user’s
   sites. This is the last thing that any hosting company wants to do.
 * If your server is running mysql 4, it may be that you signed up with them quite
   a few years ago, and they simply never upgraded mysql on that server. However,
   if they are an active hosting company, I’m sure they have released newer servers
   with newer versions of php and mysql. Instead of asking if they can upgrade mysql
   on your server, instead ask if they can migrate your account to a newer server(
   be sure to ask if the newer server is mysql 5.)

 * Hi
 * I assumed that but why in the last few months are the permissions crap,,,,
 * Cheers
 * John
 * P.S do they run scripts to sot the owner/permissions>

 * If your account is moved between servers, they may have to run custom written
   scripts to fix / update some file permissions, but this is rare. Do you know
   if your site has been moved between servers? Not as in one hosting company to
   another, but between server A and server B of the same hosting company?
 * For example, if you’re on a server in which the hard drive is getting full, they
   may migrate several of the accounts to a different server to help with the disk
   issues. An account may also be moved to a less populated server if that account
   is using excessive resources, such as CPU time / memory.
 * Why do you assume you’re having permissions issues? Further details on that would
   help troubleshoot the issue.

 * Last few months the original company has been bought out by another company!
   not sure that’s the reason but when ever i do upgrade or plug-in addition I cant
   do anything via FTP etc]

   right etc

 * You really do need to speak to your hosts about this. There isn’t really anything
   we can do to help.
