 * An article on my webhost on backing up mysql with phpmyadmin, says it’s best
   to first optimize the db.
 * Then, download the structure only.
    Then, download the data only.
 * Is there some advantage to doing it this way?
 * Thanks.

 * The advantages of optimizing the DB before downloading are self-evident.
 * The reasons for downloading the structure and data seperately would be if you
   wish to create an empty database with a given structure and fill in the data
   without another blog.
 * But in praticality wise, it’s easier to just grab the structure and data together.

 * Just FYI:
 * Scott ‘Skippy’ Merrill has a plugin for backup: at: [http://www.skippy.net/blog/category/wordpress/plugins/wp-db-backup/](http://www.skippy.net/blog/category/wordpress/plugins/wp-db-backup/)
 * Lester ‘GaMerZ’ Chan has a plugin for backup:
    This Plugin does a backup and
   has an optimization option but is a little trickier to install: [http://www.lesterchan.net/others/downloads.php?id=15](http://www.lesterchan.net/others/downloads.php?id=15)

 * Ok, got it. Yes, I have the backup plugin installed but for learning and familiarity
   purposes, I generally go the extra rigor, phpmyadmin route.
 * Thanks..
