My WordPress Blog was hacked

  • My wordpress blog was hacked, after November 2008, so that the theme got changed. In the upper left hand corner, above the new theme, are the letters dssfaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

and I cannot login to the site to make changes, to remove spam, and so forth.

I have the site backed up, and even the old theme, and would like to resurrect it. The information (about IBS) is still good.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to repair this? I can, of course, access the backend, but it’s not a matter of finding the password in the data base. The problem is, I cannot get to the login page to ENTER the password.

Any suggestions on where to go from here?

I wish I could tell you the version; it is a Tn old version, not updated, but I think it’s after version 1.x, but not much later. The lack of updates had to do with my bonding to the look and feel of the blog.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Thanks! While a lot of the stuff doesn’t apply, I will probably have to work with Hostgator service staff to check .htaccess files and recover the ability to login.

I do have (I believe) the original files, plus daily backups, so that’s a plus.

What is so perplexing is not being able to login and study the code.

frequently, reinstalling WP core files can be enough to get you back in.

Also, if you leave an old version of WP up, it pretty much WILL be hacked. Its necessary to keep WP up to date, frequently new versions have security fixes…..WP is a tasty target for hackers
