It was working about an hour ago. I installed a new theme from themeforest which worked fine and then installed pending updates.

Now, I cant access my website and I also cannot access the wordpress admin backend.

Please does anyone know how to fix this?

    Thank you!

Hi, DVees, & welcome to the WordPress support forum. I’m sorry this is happening to you.

First, thank you *so* much for providing a site link. You have absolutely no idea how helpful that is in terms of trying to troubleshoot problems like yours.

Would you please try renaming your theme, either using FTP (preferably secure FTP) or your hosting provider’s file manager? You can just put a 1 or a .old on the end of the theme folder name, i.e., mytheme1 or mytheme.old. You will not be able to access the actual site, but let’s see if you can log into the dashboard & change the theme to another 1, preferably a default theme like 2016. Let’s see if that brings the site back up.

Thank you so much for replying and for the steps.

I changed the name of the theme folder to mytheme1. However, the site is still not working.

Please how do I change the theme to another one via the cpanel?

DVees? Your site’s working now. If it isn’t for you, then please don’t forget to clear your browser cache.

Is there anything else we can do to help? Otherwise, would you please be so kind as to mark the topic ‘resolved’ so that the forum volunteers know your problem is fixed & we can go on to help others.

    Hi,
I’m having the same issues. My website has completely gone down and I can’t login.

I can’t seem to access my FTP as well. is there a solution for this?

Hello, wssoo2, & welcome. First, might I suggest you start your own topic. This is a resolved topic, & it’s therefore unlikely to be seen. The only reason I did was because I forgot to unsubscribe from it.

2nd, I would say this is not a WordPress problem if you’re having trouble w/ftp as well. I was actually able to view your site’s homepage, but no other pages. My first thought is that you discuss this w/your hosting provider. My 2nd thought is that you might wish to try renaming your plugins folder by putting a 1 or a .old at the end, like plugins1 or plugins.old. Very likely you can do this via your hosting control panel. I’m also concerned that you’re not using a default theme, & you can simply rename the theme folder as in my above reply, w/the warning that it will break your site until you’re able to change it to something different.

Please start a new topic if your hosting provider can’t help, & you can feel free to post a link to it here if you wish.

Hi Jackie, thanks for the notice!

I’ve managed to solve the problem which was due to the website’s memory limit being exceeded. The hosts managed to restore the website with a backup stored on their server.

    Thanks again!
