Support » Fixing WordPress » My website is completely Gone

  • Dear All,
First of all, I am very new to all WordPress, FTP and etc (Entire Web community). I have recently made a website for my business using wordpress forums, videos and theme documentation. I achieved some satisfaction and was proud of my own work.

Few days ago (Tuesday), I was in a WP-dashboard and mistakenly changed wordpress URL. Since then I am having nightmare! After that incident, I contacted web hosting company and they said that they have made backup and uploaded in my FTP server. I logged in to Filezilla and could see the back up file (Public_html) and I see all the plugins and the rest inside are the one I used in my site. So now what do I do, I just knew to get to WP-Admin (Dashboard) and upload plugins and work with my theme(room-09) from there. Now when I try to get to WP admin, the error page comes. I logged in to my domain account and figured it out that the installed wordpress is not there anymore.
I am really confused and I felt like it could be the domain provider as I have been sending messages everyday (3-4 times) requesting them to reinstall my site or just make it as before. They replied me saying they have made the backup and I should be doing myself.
Now, Please help me to have my site back. What I have to do?? I have public_html (back up file). How do I bring my website back?? Please explain me in simple langauge. I know that it is achievable but do not know how to achieve it.
Please help me to get my site back.

    Many thanks

  • Are your site’s files & folders still accessible via FTP?

I think so. I can see all plugins and etc under public_html. Also hosting company mentioned, that is the backup needed to restore it.
I hope my answer satisfies you.

Try changing the urls back. See Changing_The_Site_URL for details of how to do this correctly without logging in.

I will follow that link. I just re-install a fresh WordPress in my domain. For some reason the installed WordPress disappeared from my domain. Now I have a fresh wordpress in my domain and back up file made by host company.
Is it something achievable to combine both and bring the site I used to have?? or the chances is literally gone??

If you have re-installed WordPress then it’s likely that you have wiped out the old database. Is the backup from your hosts from the old database?

Yes the database is from the host and they said that the backup was from Tuesday Morning. I haven’t delete anything. I just install WP again as for some strange reason WP just disappear from my domain.

Sounds like the problem was at their end but they’ve left you to restore the old database. Have a read of Restoring_Your_Database_From_Backup.

Hi, I really do not know how to get into myadmin.php. I am in my host site but can’t see anywhere. Little knowledge is dangerous then no knowledge. 🙂
    Thank you Esmi!!

I will update you once I speak with my hosting company again.

    Hi Esmi,
Need your help more then anything.
I called hosting company and they said that backup is already in ftp under the name of public_html (date) and the rest I have to do myself ir hire simeone.

When I type url now, it shows 404 error. In domain control panel, wp is uninstalled ( I reinsall and uninstall again) from my actual domain. When I see the backup file created by host in ftp server, I could see all the plugins and the rest I used for my site.
Now please tell me what shall I do? I am happy to provide you all the details of domain n ftp if you can spare few minutes to help this helpless person. 🙂

    Plz!!😂

Have you restored the database backup yet?

The forums do not offer one-to-one support, so if you cannot manage this yourself, you may want to consider hiring someone.

Hi Esmi, I tried but didn’t work. May be I did it in a wrong way. I will try one more time, any chance you could tell me how to do it?

    Hi Andrew,
Thank you very much. I will not give it to anyone.
