• My website (beautylicious101.com) went down overnight. At first it wouldn’t let me log in to the admin page (beautylicious101.com/wp-admin) but it did eventually and it said that my website had expired two days earlier. (But I didn’t get any email notification that it was about to expire).

So right now, when I type in my web address, it simply shows a blank basic wordpress blog site with no content, instead of my normal website with my theme design and all of the content etc.

When I discovered that everything was gone, I immediately paid to renew everything (domain mapping and domain registration). However, my website has still not come back.

Now it is saying that I need to change the domain Nameserver from: NS1.Dreamhost.com, NS2.Dreamhost.com and NS3.Dreamhost.com … To: NS1.Wordpress.com, NS2.Wordpress.com and NS3.Wordpress.com.

This has really confused me and I am wondering if I do change the Nameserver to wordpress, will that mean that I am re-registering my site from wordpress.ORG to wordpress.COM?? And if I do change the Nameserver, then will all of my content be recovered or confirmed lost? I am worried about changing the nameserver and doing any more irreversible damage.

I have no idea what to do and how to get my website and content back.

    Any help very much appreciated!!

    Thank you!

  • Loads for me – looks like the nameservers are set to DH. Make sure you’ve cleared your browser cache.

Was the site originally on WP.COM? Is that where the domain was registered originally?

It looks like your site is back up at http://www.beautylicious101.com

It could be that it is taking a while for the DNS to propagate if you cannot see it yet.

    Hi WPyogi,

It was originally a wordpress.com site but only for a few days while I got to grips with wordpress.org when I transferred it over. It’s been a wordpress.org site for a couple of years. I use a theme that I bought from WP Zoom and the site looks like a food magazine with lots of content.

I use DreamHost, so am not sure why it’s asking me now to change the nameserver to wordpress.com (unless it’s asking me to register the site now as a new site – and does that mean all the content is lost?)

By the way, I did get an email in January from DreamHost saying my server was moved to Putnam, but I don’t think it happened because my details are still on DreamHost and my website was still up and running until recently (and my other website is fine too) so I’m not sure if that has anything to do with this?

Hi Cubecolour, that’s not my site unfortunately 🙁 (no content etc).

That site shows lots of content…are you seeing none? Have you cleared your browser cache? It looks like your DNS is working okay – but maybe not completely propagated to where you are:

Not totally sure what’s going on with the WP email, but if the domain name was registered through WP.COM and has never been changed to DH (registration is not the same as NameServers), then that’s why you are getting emails from them. But I would not change the NameServers to them – that direction might have been related to the expiration of the DN. You really should ask the .COM folks about issues related to domain name registration there…
