Errors like this are logged. Check the error log on your server. If you can’t find the log, please contact your host.
Meantime, enable wp_debug and wp_debug_log and after an error, look at wp-content/debug.log to see if anything gets logged there. https://wordpress.org/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/
You can also try this: Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.
If you cannot access wp-admin, there are other ways to deactivate plugins.
Hello,
I’ve already tried enabling WP_DEBUG and WP_DEBUG_LOG: True
There are no errors being logged in a debug.log file nor in a php error_log file.
I’ve also deactivated all themes and plug-ins, but this didn’t fix the problem
My host informed me that, previous to the upgrade, I was using PHP 7.2
They say that this upgrade needed PHP 7.3. Is this correct?
Could this maybe have something to do with the problem?
If so,
How can I fix this?
Please help!
Thanks a lot!
I don’t know if that matters, but 7.3 or 7.4 would be a good thing to try.
What do you mean by “crashed”?
Hi Steven,
What I mean by “crashed” is this:
I attempted to upgrade WordPress normally and BOOM!!
Something failed with the upgrade, and now I can’t access neither the frontend or backend of my website
Something went wrong with the upgrading process, but no idea what.
I have tried to deactivate all themes and plug-ins (and security plug-ins) and this didn’t fix the problem
Nothing is logged in PHP or in WordPress, no errors reported.
My host pinpoints the problem to index.php
But they couldn’t figure out anything else
I have no idea what could have caused the problem
I’m thinking to restore a backup
But,
Assuming I do this,
When I try to update again:
The website could crashed one more time.
I don’t know what to do
Thanks!
Restore your backup. And update again. It was probably just some glitch. If not, then restore yet again and let us know and we’ll debug forward from there.
Hi,
It may have something to do with my security plug-in
I’m going to follow the steps that AITpro suggested and see if that solves the problem
Thanks!
Hello,
I restored a backup of my site and then try again
This time, the upgrade process went okay 🙂
I don’t know what happened the first time
But this is solved now!
I think we can close this thread now
Thanks!
Sorry once again about the headache. Like I stated in our direct emails there is a timing issue when the ARQ cron fires and when the WP upgrade happens. Unfortunately, if there is an extended delay during the WP upgrade process then there is going to be around a 1-2% chance of this problem occurring.
