My site was hacked. (4 posts)

I had a site hosted with Uptimehost (terrible host) ... and the wordpress install was hacked. I don't know how they did it. But they installed a shell on the domain. I'm re-installing wordpress. But I think they might have screwed with the database. My wordpress install re-directs to a shell, when going to my domain.

There's nothing on Google about this, so I assume that it's new.

I'm going to install a captcha on my wordpress login page now for all my domains.

    http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_My_site_was_hacked for starters.

Don't try to fix it, start from scratch / backups.

    Check your .htaccess file.

If it's shared hosting the attack was probably external to your site, so may happen again.

They changed my admin username and password in the database ... it seems all else was left alone.

I have no idea what the above code does, but at least (thanks to me) Google can index it -- and the "good guys" can harden their code to combat it.
