I knew the old “Did you backup your database” was going to be the first thing out of anyone’s mouth on this thread. I’ve installed two separate WP database backup plugins, neither of which gives me the option “Back up database now” so I’ve never backed up my database becasue I don’t know how and the plugins dont tell me how. My site has crashed too, for some reason. I was updating Symposium and it just crashed my site won’t let me into my own dashboard. What do I do about that? Anyone? I said NO, I’ve never been able to “backup my database” using WP plugins. Any OTHER suggestions?

I have no dashboard now and I have no forum. My blog is still there and readable. http://www.voicesofthenation.com Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Updated to 3.4.1 and deleted the wp symposium folder from my FTP page and resinstalled it. Seems to be working now. That was the oddest 24 hours I’ve ever spend on WordPress.

You need to learn how to back up your site, if the plugins don’t work for you, can you use your hosting providers management panel (CPanel)?
From there you can take a database back up with 2 clicks.
Or you can go in through PHP Myadmin and do a back up there.

‘Tools -> Export’ in the WordPress dashboard works just fine too.

export doesn’t give you a full database backup.

True; but 99% of the time the WXR export is totally sufficient. There is no harm in doing both.
