My page of posts template is not working. What to do?

I’m using the Viewport theme for my capstone website. I have a couple things that I need to do:

1. I’m trying to create a page of posts. I’ve followed all the directions from this page. Following those directions, this is what gets generated. Ideally, I’d want the post’s title and the excerpt to show. Maybe some pagination as I add further projects to the site
2. This is what the actual post I was trying to get listed under the Projects page looks like.
3. How do I remove that nasty break at the end of the content block on the previous bullet point’s page?
