I have now spent hours working on a website using AI. What a waste. AI wants to put their own homepage and will not upload the home page that I created despite my deleting their generic home page.

You should be able to set the start page in the backend under Settings > Reading. See: https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/settings-reading-screen/

For further questions, I would recommend you contact the support of the Astra theme you are using, as they control the output for you: https://wordpress.org/support/theme/astra/
