# my-hacks.php “Legacy”?

 * The WP 1.2 wp-admin has an option to “Use legacy my-hacks.php file support: “

Regarding this function, the [wiki states:](http://wiki.wordpress.org/index.php/Use%20legacy%20my-hacks.php%20file%20support)
 * > The my-hacks.php was actively used prior to WordPress v1.2 to contain all
   > of the user’s hacks. Enable this option if you want to continue using the hacks
   > that can be placed in the my-hacks.php file.
 * Am I wrong to infer that this means there is a new, more sanctioned, way to include‘
hacks’? If so, is there any written documentation that I could be pointed to?

 * my-hacks used to be the only place to extend WP, now there’s plugins. So most
of the popular ‘hack’ should be migrating to the plugin style archetecture. But
my-hacks is still useful, it’s a great place to add little bits of code to your
own site. You can turn it off if you want. I have my count down function in there.

 * For some reason my checkbox next to Use legacy my-hacks.php file support won’t
stay checked after I press “update options” – anyone else having this trouble?
