Support » Plugin: List category posts » my favorite format with line breaks

  • In case anyone cares, here is how I set up the code to have the post name appear on one line, the date on the next, and then the excerpt after that. It formats rather nicely with a line between each “block”:

    [catlist name=categoryname date=yes excerpt=yes numberposts=-1 date_tag=br excerpt_tag=p]

Turns out this kind of format (with a bullet):

    This is the post title
    July 17, 2013
This is the excerpt. blah blah blah

This is the next post title
    July 10, 2013
This is the excerpt. blah blah blah

  • Thanks that’s really helpful. I want to improve the layout and your suggestion makes a nice interim stage.
    My aim is to:
    1. remove the bullets
    2. apply a different class for the anchor so that the link text is larger, more like a header
    3. Link the author name to his profile

I care … and I thank you very much this was very helpful for me!

Perhaps you could help me further. I would like to add a “read more” link to the end of the excerpt and still maintain the space between the list of posts but have not been able to get it to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Here’s a what I am trying to achieve:

    Title of post 1
    Exerpt | Read More
    Title of post 2
    Exerpt | Read More
    ETC ……

Here is a link to the page:

    Here is the current shortcode I am using: [catlist numberposts=10 title_tag=b date=yes date_tag=br thumbnail=yes thumbnail_class=”alignleft” excerpt=yes excerpt_tag=p]

I would like it to look exactly like it does on the page now except for to add the “read more” link at the end of the excerpt.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer!

Your best bet is probably using the Template feature.

Thanks Eric3D, I don’t know anything about the template feature but will look into it. If you could help point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

See instructions at the bottom of

Copy the template file from the plugin folder to your theme folder, rename it, edit it to your liking, and call it by name in the shortcode.
