My custom header image only shows in customize mode

I just launched the theme I developed live and it is not working as well as on the the test site. When I save an image for the custom header image, it appears while I am still in customize mode. But as soon as I save and exit, it disappears. Also, when I inspect the html, none of the header image code appears.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I built my theme off of underscores.
