Support » Plugin: Block Lab » My custom blocks not available in “Add block” menu (after update?)

    Hi there,
Great plugin, it greatly simplifies adding new content.
I created few custom blocks last year and has used them in OceanWP theme so far without any problems. Now, I’ve just noticed that I can’t add any of my custom blocks from “Add block” Gutenberg menu when I’m creating new post – they simply aren’t there in the menu! I think it might be a result of WP auto update, but I’m not sure. Certainly it worked the last time I added new post (March 2020). The plugin is installed and activated. I see “Block lab” item in the left-side menu in dashboard and when I go there, I see all my custom blocks are there as normal. So the problem is only that, they dissapeared from “Add block” menu. I checked and “blocks” folder is present under my theme folder and it contains all my custom blocks. And when I open 1 of the posts previously created which HAS my custom block on it, it doesn’t show the block as it used to do, but instead displays caption “Site does not support block ‘block-lab/knifedetails’ (knifedetails is my custom block slug). You can leave it as it is or delete it.

    Hi @robs23,
Thanks for using Block Lab, and sorry about the issue.

    1. Is there a console error or warning?
    2. Are there other block-related plugins active?

You gave a lot of details, but it’d help if you could fill out a bug report: https://github.com/getblocklab/block-lab/issues/new?template=bug_report.md

    Thanks!

    Hi Ryan,
Thanks for prompt answer. If you mean browser console, it displays 2 warnings when I open “New blog post” page:

The 2nd one is probably off, but the 1st seems to be in topic.

As to plugins, no, nothing seems to be related to blocks. There is only 1 plugin I think potentially could be causing that: XO Featured Image Tool. I added it as the last plugin, way later than all the other plugins. I added it around 2 months ago, which more less matches when the issue start to happen (at least based on when it worked well the last time, as I can’t recall the exact moment)

    Hi @robs23,
    Thanks for your information.

Those console warnings don’t look to be a problem.

Would you be able to try deactivating the XO Featured Image Tool plugin, and see if the issue still exists? Not to cast blame, that probably won’t fix it.

If that doesn’t work, it’d be great if you could fill out a bug report:

    Hi,

Ok, I deactivated the XO Featured Image Tool plugin, but it didn’t help. I created a bug report at https://github.com/getblocklab/block-lab/issues/634
What should I don now? I think about uninstalling block lab and installing it back, won’t it impact the posts I have already created with my custom blocks on them? What should I back up not to create my custom blocks all over again after reinstall?

    Hi @robs23,
Thanks for filling out the bug report. I’ll look at it tomorrow (Monday).

Sure, you can uninstall and install Block Lab without losing any data.

I replied to the GitHub issue with an idea of updating WordPress Core.

    Hi Ryan,

As already pointed in github issue, updating WP did the trick for me. There’s another issue persisting but I gave the details on github, I think there’s no reason to copy-paste it also here. If anyone is interested there’s a link in your reply.

Thanks for trying the different WP version!

If it’s alright, I’ll close this topic, and we can continue the discussion on the GitHub issue above.
