Support » Theme: Customizr » My child theme went BLANK when I upgraded from 2.1.8 to 3.0.3

  • My child theme went BLANK when I upgraded from 2.1.8 to 3.0.3. So I downgraded again and all is well.

It appears the header.php file and perhaps others are significantly overhauled. Should child themes still work? Or are child themes being left behind?

I’d like to know if I should hold off updating to the latest Customizr theme until I have a lot of time to re-tool.

    Thanks for clarifying,
    ~Brendan

    No one else?

My child theme contains lots of edits. I’m not sure whether I should

    • avoid updates in general (if they generally pack large, child-theme-breaking) changes, or
    • accept them (and just re-tool after the recent overhaul, with confidence that my child-theme won’t be breaking too often in the future).

    Thanks for any help.

You don’t want to do that as you may miss important updates that way.

What was it you’ve changed in your child theme? When you get a blank screen that means that PHP is crashing. Your web server’s error log file should show you where the problem is.

This might help. I had a similar problem with that release, resolved by fixing the template name to lower case ‘c’.

There were significant improvements made, but Child Themes are still supported and work in 3.0.3. 3.0.4 has just been released which looks like it causes a problem with the Slider and Nic is looking into it.

Despite these teething problems with what is a new Theme, I’d recommend trying to stick with it and helping Nic, the Author, get it to a full release as an authorised Theme, which benefits everybody.
