    Hello,

with permalinks there is a workaround that I found to make them work without mod_rewrite when you simply add /index.php/ in front of your tags like this example: /index.php/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/

Is there also a workaround or plugin available that gives you the ability to use the multisite feature of WP 3.0.1 without having the ability to create and use a .htaccess file (as this seems not to be available with my provider only at higher and more expansive accounts)

Maybe with more administrative things to do like creating sub/folders by hand, or configuring sub domains or domains directing to specific folders etc.?

I would appreciate any hints in regards to this…

  • No.

Tho I will say if it works by you adding /index.php/ I’m gonna guess your on a Windows server. That’d be a web.config file there, not htacess.

    Honestly though, I’d move hosts.

    Hi,

no my web hoster doesn’t offer .htaccess (to his lower web pacs) it is an Apache 2 web server.

    Cheers

So it’s an Apache server and he won’t let you use htaccess? That’s pretty basic standard stuff.

To use multisite, yes you need it. Move hosts.

Thanks Andrea, sad that there is no alternative… if I would like to have access to the .htaccess files I need to pay more…
    Agan thank you for sharing!

Seriously, that’s the first host I’ve ever heard of that does that.
