I realize this question has been addressed quite a few times before, but what I believed should be simple is turning into a nightmare.
I have a multisite setup with a finite number of sites (4), two of which require SSL on certain pages. I have SSL set up on the root domain, and each of the sites are in subdirectory format mapped to an individual domain.
I'm using the wordpress HTTPS plugin, but as predicted, the pages I'm trying to protect with HTTPS redirect to the root domain (which generates a 404).
What I'd ideally like to do to ensure this is as easy as possible is to simply have pages requiring SSL remain in subdirectory format, thereby enabling me to use the root domain's SSL to protect those pages. However this doesn't seem to be working.
Does anyone know a possible scenario in which I can make this happen? Happy to use 301 redirects, whatever needs to be done.
