Multisite — Sub-sites Not Found — Mapping Issue?

    The main domain works fine, but none of the sub-sites work. Each sub-directory shows a 404 error saying nothing was found. It seems like something is wrong with the mapping, but everything I’ve checked seems correct.

    Little background: This multisite is my client’s old site(s). I pushed their new site live and moved their old site to a folder outside /public_html/. Previously each sub-site had its own domain, but now they’re each supposed to be a sub-folder or sub-directly off of the primary domain. I used Better Search Replace Pro to change all the url references, and I’ve checked .htaccess and wp_config.php, but all seems well… it just doesn’t work.

    I’ve thought about trying to re-setup the multisite plugin/feature, but I’m afraid I’ll lose what little connection I have to the correct tables etc. How do I troubleshoot this?

    The problem ended up being two fold: 1) Needed to disable domain mapping and comment out the sunrise line in wp-config.php and 2) needed to fix the “siteurl” in the child site options tables. For example, in wp_2_options, the “siteurl” was “https://yoursite.com/childsite” and it should have been “https://yoursite.com”.

    Hi bzle,

    In my case the main site works, but the sub-sites only load the text too.
    When I apply your fix, the front-end loads almost completely, but it is no longer possible to enter the dashboard of the sub-site. Any idea how to fix that?

    Unfortunately I don’t have an answer for you. The login pages for my subsites don’t work either. We only need to access the front-end (they’re archived), so I haven’t investigated getting those operational.

    If you don’t mind posting back here once you’ve found a solution, I’d be interesting in knowing what the fix is.
