Support » Networking WordPress » Multisite per subdomain .css files

  • I’d like to edit the css of individual sites in a multisite subdomain setup. I can do this if I go to Appearance -> customize -> Custom CSS (are these changes in the database or a file?). This will only affect the selected site and not the main theme, which is what I want. However I find it cumbersome to do as opposed to editing css files.

Can this be done with actual .css files?

  • I’ll offer my preference:

Child themes work slick in a multisite.

You can network enable each child theme, or enable each child theme on a site by site basis via Network->Sites->Edit-> Themes tab.

Setting up the Child theme initially is cumbersome, but in the end you’ll be a-tinkerin’ with each site’s unique style.css soon enough. (Individual blog admins will be restricted to using a plugin, though). SuperAdmin can use built in theme editor 🙂

Thanks David. I think I’ll go that route. I had thoughts of making the process more automated. Such as using only one child theme that would recognize the subdomain an pull files accordingly. I’m thinking that’s too convoluted, so K.I.S.S.
