 * Alright, so I have a 4 year old WordPress site that I love, but at this time
   I really can’t afford to have new functionality added to it with a WordPress
   developer.
 * I want to create a network of sites which would all have different functionality/
   post types and themes. I have looked into plugins for all of the different functions
   I want to add to my base site (which is a newspaper/trade magazine)…but it appears
   there are themes out there that provide more.
 * Classifieds
    Car sales Real estate sales A product store Multiple directories
   Group deals Crowdfunding
 * I wanted to find out which route makes the most sense to move forward with.
 * Do I:
 * Add subdomains to my main site and install individual wordpress installs with
   their own databases, new themes/post types and functionality?
 * Convert to multisite and use a single WP install with all of the different themes
   and functionality?
 * Which option will provide the best site speed, please note I am on VPS currently.
 * Thanks in advance.

 * I would suggest reading through [http://halfelf.org/2011/dont-use-wordpress-multisite/](http://halfelf.org/2011/dont-use-wordpress-multisite/)
   to learn more about when to use WordPress Multisite.
 * If you want to create a network in Multisite then all the sites will be linked
   together. This is good if they are all somewhat related and together form a network
   of sites for a company or application. It sounds like yours would all be related
   to your niche so Multisite would perhaps be a valid solution.

 * The funny thing is I have spoken with multiple “WordPress Professionals” and
   presented the same question…it’s been 50/50 on their responses.Just to add in,
   I will be the only administrator of this network so updating plug-ins and themes
   would all fall on my shoulders…but at the same time, I wouldn’t have to worry
   about issues with multiple administrators.
 * All of the sites would certainly be part of my network and niche related. I guess
   the biggest determining factor would be…are the themes multisite compatible.
 * If I have between 8-10 wordpress sites in the network…which system would provide
   the most speed?
 * Also, which of the two options provides the best SEO solutions?

 * All themes on wordpress.org should work just fine on multisite.

 * I doubt that there will be much in it. The deciding factor in these situations
   is normally the amount of traffic that you expect to get and the performance/
   resilience of your server.

 * What Esmi said is right.
 * > Also, which of the two options provides the best SEO solutions?
 * Neither. Google don’t care about that one 🙂 it’s all down to server speed at
   that point on a small network.

 * I spoke with my service provider and they have assured me that there will not
   be any issue with multiple WordPress installations, so it appears that’s the
   route I’ll go. Thanks for the discussion. I was a bit flummoxed in which route
   to go.

 * That’s _NOT_ the same as “WordPress Multisite” so please make sure they’re clear
   what you meant 🙂
