    Hi

I am considering a multisite install, but am not sure that it is the right option and before I get too deep in I want to make sure it is the right option.

I run a wordpress site with a single install as it is today.

Basically I want to create a site that has is the main site i.e. example.com. I then want to set up subdomains i.e. site1.example.com, site2.example.com, etc. But all the sites should be linked in that creating a profile and logging in on one of the sites gives access to all of the sites in the network.

Another but. But each site will have different themes and functionalities, so a users profile will be visible on all sites.

Should I go multisite or is it a lost cause.

    Please advise.

  2. What you just described is Multisite. You just need a plugin to add all users to all sites.

Thanks Mika. That's what I thought, but then I found the following discussion that then confused me.

    http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/single-sign-on-to-all-sites-in-my-entire-wp-network

    and

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/single-sign-on-for-subdomain

My site would have a similar set up to the second thread.

So basically if a user creates a profile on one site it will be available on all sites and once they log in they do not have to log in to each site individually, is this correct?

You mentioned a plugin, which plugin would you recommend?

    Thanks for your help

  4. So basically if a user creates a profile on one site it will be available on all sites and once they log in they do not have to log in to each site individually, is this correct?

No. They MAY still need to log in to the subsites, since cross-domain cookies are weird and that's a GOOD thing for security. But it's the same user ID and password.

    I'd use https://wordpress.org/plugins/multisite-user-management/
